Happy Day

Last night I laid awake until about 2:30 AM thinking about wedding stuff. I have spent the last month being calm and organized and all the sudden it hit me that I still have a ton to do. Now today I'm grumpy and sleepy and carrying around a pounding headache while trying to work and simultaneously get started on our ceremony programs. Maybe it's because we are two months to the day away from the big event. Either way I hope to bang out more of my to-do list so I can sleep more soundly tonight.

Sunday Outing

After church John and I decided to help out his cousin Teresa and take her girls, Amanda and Christine, for a few hours. We adore them and they are so much fun to be around. We went over to the Build-A-Bear store (a place I'd never stepped foot in before) and created their choice of stuffed animal and actually had a great time doing it. Then we stopped off at the carousel in the mall before eating lunch and heading home.
I think these outings help us to see what life would be like with kids. A few years off of course but good practice nonetheless!

Here are some pics from the day...

Feature Films

Last night John and I successfully finished seeing all the five Best Picture nominees. This wasn't exactly planned, but as movie buffs, it happened to work out that way.

Below is a list of them in my favorite order. John probably won't agree, but to each their own :)

1. Juno
2. No Country for Old Men
3. Michael Clayton
4. There Will Be Blood
5. Atonement

Maybe next we'll move on to Best Documentary...

Yes, I Pretty Much Only Read Memoirs

Today I spent the morning at the Honda dealership in West Chester getting my regular oil change, so I cracked open the last couple chapters of this really good book that I've been reading called "The Middle Place" by Kelly Corrigan. I started tearing up during the epilogue right before the service guy came into the waiting area to tell me my car was ready. I pretended my allergies are bad. The author's journey during her struggle with cancer and stories of her Dad reminds me so much of my friend Megan (in a good way). I want to send it to her but I don't want it to make her sad.

Hair Opinions Needed

In late February I'm meeting with my fabulous hairdresser to discuss my wedding day style. I found this pic the other day online and love the idea of a 'messier' version but still with a simple hair pin on one side. The front I'll have to do a side swept bang (similar to my current look) as I promised my mom who has insisted on 'nothing slicked back'.

Let me know what you think...

Political Smackdown

Last night after a delicious burrito from Chipotle (thank you, thank you to whoever is responsible for adding one here in PA!) John and I settled in to watch the entire two hour Democratic debate on CNN. Both of us follow this campaign very closely as we believe it's an important and drastic time for our country. With that said, I'm not much of a political talker but there are a few points I'd like to make...

-I am a proud registered Democrat and I support Barack Obama. I dislike Hillary Clinton and if she is the nominee I will have to strongly think about whether or not I will vote in the general election.

-What the hell was up with that forum? I swear the 'no rules' policy taken on by CNN was totally ridiculous. Hardly any questions were truly answered and most of them were phrased for battle between the candidates. During the second half I turned to John and asked if they were going to be bringing out the mud wrestling pit as Wolf Blitzer said it was going to get even more lax.

-Was it just me or was Hillary's outfit like something straight off the Star Trek collection? All she needed was a boomerang broach. Who dresses her?

-I do think John Edwards made a point to step it up a notch. In previous debates he seemed like an after thought. Both John and I did like a few statements that he made which surprised us.

-I would have liked to seen Barack not stumble as much. He is a bright and eloquent speaker, but these debates don't seem to suit him. I think he must be doing something right, though, to garner as much heat from the other two that he did.

I look forward to Saturday and what is to come from South Carolina...

PARTY!

For the first time in over a week, we didn't receive any wedding RSVP's in the mail but I did however get the most adorable invitation I've ever seen and it's to my own bachelorette party in Las Vegas!
My sister crafted them all by herself, complete with a CD of some of my favorite tracks to get us pumped for the girls weekend. Some of the featured songs include, 'Going to the Chapel', 'Jackie', 'Crazy Love' and 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun'. Needless to say I was very touched.
Here are some pics...

I know all the girls are putting in a lot of effort to make the weekend special so I am getting super excited. I'm also, admittedly very happy that John's bachelor party will be the same weekend! He and the guys are headed down to Atlantic City.

Punchtastic

Tonight it was just Duke and I. John had a work sales meeting up in Bear Creek so while he spent the evening skiing with co-workers (love you honey), I was punching round holes in paper for our favor hang tags. I bought this contraption at Michael's thinking it would make my job easier, but it's clear I wasn't using it properly or my 25 cent paper was way too thick. After several hours, I managed to get to my goal of 180 but not before some serious wrist soreness. I think i'll keep this short and the typing to a minimum :)

See my work below...

Bargain

Last night John and I stopped at Barnes and Noble and quickly blew through our gift cards from Christmas there. We also got my watch re-sized and stopped in at The Gap which I haven't been to in ages. I'm on a super tight budget these days so was happy to find this little number on the clearance rack...

I plan to wear it out in Vegas for my bachelorette weekend coming up. Even though it's red, it's cute on me without being trampy and the fabric is ultra soft. I'm thinking tights will be in order, too.

No Show

As I've admitted on this blog before, I love awards shows and was sad to see that the Golden Globes wasn't being aired as normal. I will say though, that watching the winners being read in 30 minutes was actually quite nice. Sure, I didn't get to see the red carpet stuff but it was great to sit back with John, who is tortured by them normally, and watch together so quick. We even played a game of Scrabble during it (John won again damn!).

I'm not sure I can stomach a shortened version of the Oscars though. I hope this writers strike ends soon. I'm also getting a tad tired of reality television. Bring back The Office people!

Bon Voyage!

My dear friend Vanessa and her husband Jared are off to Seattle from Phoenix where they are relocating for Jared's job. I wanted to take this opportunity to wish them the best of luck in their new city. I know Seattle will embrace them as it did me so many years ago.

Much love you guys! Can't wait to visit :)

Cool As a Cucumber

I've got to say, now that our wedding invitations went out last week and we had a nice/productive meeting with our priest today, I feel surprisingly calm. Anyone that knows me understands this is an odd feeling for me but I'm not going to fight it! I can't wait for the RSVP's to start coming back to us. It's really exciting.

Just under 3 months now until I'm Mrs. Lang! Wow...

Another Must See!

I have been disappointed with the overall quality of movies lately and rarely walk out of one feeling as delighted as I was yesterday when we went to see 'Juno'.
It was so well written and funny, beautifully acted. Not to mention had an awesome soundtrack!
Run don't walk...so worth the $9 or whatever movies are nowadays.

Must See

Last night I watched the movie 'Waitress' with the awesome Keri Russell (I won't get into how obsessed I was with Felicity once upon a time). Definitely a good female friendly film without being too cutesy which was refreshing!

Happy New Year!

Last night was one of the most relaxed and fun New Years Eve's I've ever had. John and I took the train into Philadelphia from Hatboro (a first) and walked over to Spasso, a delicious italian restaurant in Old City, where we were meeting couples Lauren and Bill, Mary and Bud and Sarah and Charlie for dinner. Our reservation was at 9 pm which was perfect as there was plenty of time for several courses and lots of drinking before the countdown began. We even got to watch the awesome fireworks display over the water from the comfort of our table in the restaurant. We left with barely enough time to catch the train home but luckily my heels were well broken in and we made it just fine.

I hope everyone else had a safe and happy holiday and I wish you all the best in the year to come!
