World Travelers

A few days ago John and I went down to the local post office to get our first ever passports. I know, it's so exciting.
In May, we are traveling to a wedding in Jamaica and figured now was probably a good time to get going on submitting our applications. We've heard stories of it taking months to get them in. We handed the woman our applications and documents and she took our photos (she told me I smiled too much and that they want more of a 'mug shot') then came the cost...$230 for the two of us! I almost fell over in my chair. I had no idea how expensive these things were. If I had a clue we would have waited until after the holidays for such an extravagant transaction. I mean isn't traveling out of the country expensive enough? I'm sure we were ripped off somehow but we were dealing with the US State Dept. directly so it is a bit hard to understand. I have a difficult time letting go of stuff like this, but thank heavens its something that is at least good for years to come.
