Sad But True

When I was little we had a rabbit as one of our family pets. His name was Alfred and I was devastated when one day, while he innocently laid in the sun, he was killed by a neighborhood cat in our yard.

Fast forward to today and apparently we have a family of rabbits living under our deck. We've noticed the small hole in the lattice but never thought much of it until Friday. That's when we were leaving for dinner and John caught Duke with a bunny in his mouth. Uh-huh. If it was I that saw this, rest assured I would have been traumatized.
The rest of the weekend I was having a hard time even looking at Duke, but that was until we lost sight of him in the yard today only to find him once again dragging a poor defenseless rabbit out from under it's 'safe' haven. He then received a long bath and is moping around the house because we yelled at him, having no clue as to what he did wrong. He is going to be under strict watch when we are outside until John and I can tackle the lattice issue when we re-stain the deck in a few weeks. But my baby dog is now a baby bunny hunter and I'm totally grossed out by it. Still, I guess he is just a dog after all. John did rescue him from some hick country SPCA so this side was bound to come out. I just kinda wish it hadn't.

I know it's just their natural instinct, but that would freak me out, too.

BTW, how's the book you're reading? It sounds interesting!

I feel your pain, I am afraid the squirrels are back in my yard and eating all my new spring flowers...
