Then things got kinda bad...
We arrived home around 6:30 pm and immediately noticed that our front gate was open, which it never is. I thought that was weird, but nothing else was abnormal, until we opened the back door and saw that our window air conditioner unit in the family room was pushed in and laid on our couch, with the window wide open in that room and the window in the neighboring family room as well. I was terrified. Someone had broken in while we were away.
John quickly checked the house while I called the police who were right down the street, because apparently the same thing had happened at a neighbors.
Luckily for us, nothing was taken. Many closets were open and jewelry boxes/drawers were pilfered, yet our work laptops, TV, I-pods, etc. were left unharmed. The office was exactly how we had left it. It was so strange. We figured something must have startled them because our front door was unlocked so we guess they ran out in a hurry.
Last night I couldn't help trying to shake the gross feeling of having been violated in some way because of these intruders. It unnerves me to no end, as we love our home. But, I refuse to be scared in it and now have to train my brain to think differently. It just stinks.

Jackie, I'm so sorry that happened to you and John! I'm so glad nothing was taken and that you weren't home, but I understand that feeling of being violated. I hope the police catch the people behind it!
