You Shall Be Called...

What's in a name? Pretty much everything in my book. John and I have spent the better part of the last 7 months trying to come up with the perfect name for our little girl and I must say, it hasn't been easy. We have had the usual discussions over ones we like and the other hates, ones we think are too popular or too weird and the inevitable release of any one syllable first names that sound too monotone with our one syllable last name. I think the whole thing has been a big challenge. I of course didn't make it any easier, by involving my family in name discussions while we were home visiting in Aug. They scoffed at many and have a deep loathing for my absolute favorite contender. It was just a bad move all around. Oddly enough, I know two pregnant ladies who have already named their future child and refer to it still in the womb as such name, which to me is nuts.

So now John and I have a list of our top 3-5 that we keep to ourselves and have written on a tiny piece of paper that will come with us in my overnight bag to the hospital. I look forward to the day we can clear the room, look down at her and give her a name that suits her just beautifully. Until then, I pray to not be asked the question 'what names do you like?' again.

I can't WAIT until the baby's born because I'm just dying to know her name! I have to admit, we've had both our boy and girl names set for years, and I think there's something really fun about having a couple contenders and deciding after the baby's born.

Having a list to pick from once you actually meet baby makes sense to me. What if you have a name picked out and then you meet and it just doesn't fit?
